Travel Guide

Reaching Montchavin–Les Coches is easier than you might think. Whether you’re coming by train, plane, or car, we’re here to help you plan the smoothest, most stress-free journey possible. Once you arrive, our team is on hand to welcome you and ensure everything is ready for a relaxed check-in.

Getting to Montchavin–Les Coches

By train – fast, convenient, and eco-friendly

Taking the train is one of the most popular and environmentally friendly ways to reach the Alps. The nearest station is Landry, just a 15-minute drive from both Montchavin and Les Coches. There are also excellent connections to Aime-la-Plagne and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, which are both around 25–35 minutes away.

From the UK, you can travel via the Eurostar to Paris or Lille, then transfer onto a direct TGV service into the Alps. During ski season, the Eurostar Snow train offers direct services on weekends between London and Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

We recommend booking train travel early during peak weeks. Let us know your arrival time and station in advance—we’ll be happy to assist with arranging a local taxi or private transfer to your chalet.

Settle in and enjoy the mountains

By plane – four great airport options

Flying can be a convenient choice if you're travelling from further afield. You have a choice of four nearby international airports, all offering a range of onward travel options:

  • Chambéry – approx. 1 hour 45 mins

  • Geneva – approx. 2.5 hours

  • Lyon – approx. 2.5 hours

  • Grenoble – approx. 2.5 hours

From each airport, you can continue your journey via car hire, shared shuttle, or private taxi. We’re happy to advise on the best routes and transfer companies depending on your arrival airport and group size.

By car – arrive at your own pace

Driving offers complete flexibility, and Montchavin–Les Coches is well connected via excellent road routes.

From Albertville, follow signs for Moutiers, then continue towards Landry, where you’ll begin the scenic climb into the resort. Travel time from Calais is around 9 to 10 hours depending on conditions.

In winter, it’s a legal requirement to carry snow chains or have snow tyres on mountain roads. Please check your vehicle is compliant and weather-ready before travelling.

There is free outdoor parking available close to both Chalet Mathilde and Chalet Versoye. If you’d prefer covered parking, options are available nearby (please ask us for details in advance).

Arrival times and check-in

Check-in at the chalets is available from 4:00pm. If you expect to arrive earlier, we may be able to store luggage or allow early access depending on availability—just let us know in advance. For late arrivals, we’re happy to arrange a key pick-up or welcome you personally depending on the time.

Our aim is to make your arrival as smooth as possible so you can settle in, unpack, and start enjoying the mountains.

Local taxis

We recommend two trustworthy local taxi firms in the Montchavin - Les Coches vicinity. If you're journeying into the Alps via train or coach, a taxi might be necessary.

Taxi Marchandet - 0033 (0)4 79 07 83 17
Taxi Richard - 0033 (0)6 80 85 27 92 | Email: richard-herve@sfr.fr

Car Hire

Once on French soil, you could hire a car from the airport or the train station. Driving in the mountains during winter is not for the faint-hearted. We recommend that you are comfortable driving in snow and ice and that you hire a car with 4-wheel drive and snow tyres fitted.

Geneva airport serves both France and Switzerland for international travel. When you hire a car in the French sector of Geneva airport, you must collect it from that side of the airport. Sometimes you arrive on the international side but can easily transition to the French side.

You must return your car to the French sector of Geneva airport when departing. For a few airlines, you can check-in in the French sector. However, for most airlines flying to the UK, you'll need to go to the Swiss side to check in. You can access the international sector via the transit area.
