Other Activities in Montchavin - Les Coches

Montchavin - Les Coches provides lots of non-skiing activities and entertainment over the winter months.

We know you and your family will enjoy a brilliant holiday even if you’re not skiing every day.

The villages are a hive of activity in winter, covered in a blanket of snow with twinkling fairy lights and excitement in the air.

Springtime on the mountain is fantastic too. The sun appears more often, and there’s an energy shift. La Plagne sets up the water slides in the snow park, there’s serious snow-shoeing to enjoy, the restaurants’ terraces are packed, and there’s drinking and dancing outdoors.

Le Poste is a great place to stop on the way down to the villages.

There are games and activities in the central square of In Montchavin - Les Coches throughout the week.

Outdoor Activities for the Family

Torch-lit Descent

For two-star skiers and above.

Each week, when night falls onto the slopes, adults and children of the right skier level can join the ESF ski instructors for a descent into darkness.

You will be armed with a torch and led down the piste by professional instructors.

Children can make the descent without parents - you should ask your ski instructor if they can join. Watch from the bottom and try not to get emotional.

Afterwards, the instructors join you for an aperitif.

Adults and children €20.

Normally Thursday around 16.15, but it can change.

Colorado Luge - The Toboggan Run La Plagne

The French call it the luge, the Americans call it toboggan, and the British call it sledging.

Whatever it is, it is enjoyable for the whole family.

Over in La Plagne Centre, you’ll find the one-mile run for the toboggan; the meeting point is at the bottom of the Colorado ski lift. Here you can buy a pass and safely leave your skis.

Then you’ll take the Colorado chair lift and, once at the top, head to the luge park. You will enjoy an exciting and somewhat different way to slide down the mountain.

Exchange the sledge for your equipment at the bottom.

There are fabulous views of Mont Blanc on a clear day.

The toboggans go fast, so be sure you know where the brakes are 😊

  • Sledge and helmets are compulsory.

  • Minimum height requirement: 1.40m.

There are plenty of do-it-yourself snowshoe trails and walks in the Montchavin - Les Coches area.

If you’d like to go further afield, you can hire a guide with the ESF ski school or Evolution 2. Take a half-day or a full day to experience the area's nature or culture. Snowshoeing tours can be modified to suit the age and fitness of the group.

Evolution 2 offers an evening Montchavin - Les Coches snowshoe experience, where a mountain guide will meet you in Les Coches and take you on a moonlit hike to Fontaine Froide.

A snowmobile will take you to an altitude restaurant for a Savoyard meal.

An airboard is an inflatable sledge for cruising down the slopes after the last skiers have left. It’s a great way to finish the day.

A little like a bodyboard, lie on your stomach, head first and slide down the snowy piste, holding on to the sledge handles and controlling it with your body weight.

Watch out, there aren’t any brakes, and the sledges can go pretty fast if you let them. The airboard is maximum fun.

Helmets are necessary.

Watch a taster of the airboard on YouTube

€30 per person.

Fat Bike Downhill

Fat bikes have massive tyres that allow the rider downhill on snow and mud. They are amazingly stable. Explore the area and get outdoors with the electrically assisted fat bikes in Montchavin.

Wear hiking boots or trail trainers and gloves.

The equipment provided when you hire is a full-face helmet, body protection and the Fat Bike.

Electric Snow Scooters

A guided ride on electric scooters; there are several courses in Montchavin-Les Coches.

Typically, you start in Les Coches in front of the new tree-top adventure park.

There are instructions, and you have time to learn to use them before setting off on the ride.

Bobsleigh Track La Plagne

Over in La Plagne 1800 is the famous Olympic bobsleigh run, which is 1.5 km from top to bottom with 19 bends, and 124.5 metres of vertical drop. At the bottom, there’s a deceleration track of 200 metres.

And for your information, the record speed on the La Plagne bobsleigh track is 134 kilometres per hour.

You can experience the bobsleigh in three ways.

Bob Raft

Especially for public use of the track, this unique upright bob raft means friends and families can experience the route. The bob rafts reach 80 kilometres per hour in the fastest section. These automatic bob rafts steer and brake on their own.

  • Take four people.

  • Minimum height of 1.30 metres.

Bob Racing

The bob racing is the closest to the competition descent, reaching up to 120 kilometres per hour.

A professional driver sits at the front of the bobsleigh, much smaller than the bob raft. As you descend, the speed increases, and you are sure to feel the crazy g-force!

  • Over 16 years old.

Speed Luge

The speed luge is more extreme; they are individual sledges, where you lie back with your feet first - pretty close to the ice.

The public luge is more enclosed than those you’d find in the Olympics with a cage-like lid. These get up to 90 kilometres per hour.

  • Over 16 years old.

The best way to get to the bobsleigh is by car, but it is possible to get a taxi.

Husky Ride

Available at Le Plan Bois just above Les Coches; husky dog rides are available for whole families or romantic trips for couples.

Husky dog rides get booked fast, so it is best to reserve before arriving at the resort.

Paragliding (Parapente)

Evolution 2 takes you to unimaginable heights above the mountains during a tandem paragliding experience.

Harnessed to a professional who controls the wing, you will enjoy a 45-minute flight with unbelievable bird’s-eye views of the valley.

Open to skiers, snowboarders, and pedestrians.

Meet your qualified paraglider at the Roche de Mio, next to the top of the ”Carella” ski lift.

Take the Montchavin lift, the Pierres Blanches lift, and the Dos Rond. Ski to the bottom of the Carroley; take that to reach the top.

Snowmobile adventures from Belle Plagne, the snowmobile base. Accessible by car.
